VIDEO: Vail Colorado Review (RiderTech Encore)
VIDEO: Vail Colorado Review. With over 5,000 rideable acres, Vail offers something for everyone. The 2004-05 season was horrible for the Pacific Northwest, but we arrived in Colorado a few days after a big snow dump and were greeted with warm sunshine in Vail. After touring the frontside, we hit up the infamous Back Bowls for the remainder of the afternoon. This video represents part 2 of a 2-part video series, which began with a Colorado Preview. Fashion Week NYC Begins - Papierdoll
Fashion Week NYC Begins. I think Fall Fashion week is perhaps my favorite season for shows. The cooler weather causes designers to create in layers. With the Spring/Summer shows, a designer tends to think minimalism. For the fall, designers pull out all the stops. You[base ']ll have a mish-mash of coats, sweaters, shawls, boots, handbags, tops, dresses I can go on and on. Last year, being new, we had trouble getting into shows we loved. This year, it[base ']s about finding the time for two people (and our photographer) to attend all the shows to which we[base ']ve been invited. The shows don[base ']t just end in New York. Meryl Demiglio is back for Paris (and we hear Milan). So enjoy our coverage in the coming days of all the shows we love. *The promotional e-mail digests may go on hiatus as we cover the spectacle that is fashion week. []

Split Enz Regroup For Tour
Split Enz Regroup For Tour. This summer, New Zealand's most famous musical export Split Enz will reunite and tour for the first time in over 20 years. Unfortunately, they're saying that it's only a tour and no new Enz material will come of it, but beggars can't be choosers. The outside commitments of the six musicians mean there is no room for a return to the studio for Split Enz. "It takes a lot of energy to do that," says Tim Finn. "You just can't flit in and out of it. It would be really tricky." So fans will have to content themselves with the upcoming shows. "We're not selling anything. No one's hanging on it. Hopefully, when we play we can simply enjoy the music." [full story] [donewaiting.com :: music commentary]

E-mail From the One Campaign
Dear Gary: Today, Bono addressed the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C., reaching across divides to ask policy makers and faith leaders to do more to beat global AIDS and extreme poverty and calling on the U.S. to give an additional 1% of the budget to this fight. In a statement today, Bono said: "It must be an emergency when an Irish rock star is being invited to speak at the National Prayer Breakfast and the House Democrat annual retreat all on the same day. And it is. Because in this long day 6,500 Africans will die of AIDS and 110 million kids won't get to go to school. The good news is that politicians on both sides, and more importantly the people who elect them, are all joining as ONE against AIDS and the extreme poverty in which it thrives. The great news will be when the effective programs to beat AIDS and extreme poverty are finally fully funded." Thanks, The ONE Team http://www.One.org

Paul Tillich
Paul Tillich: the Apostle to the Intellectuals. Paul Tillich (1886-1965) was a German thinker who came to America in 1933 after losing his job for opposing the national socialism movement. Tillich was a protestant theologian and an existentialist philosopher and humanist who attempted to intellectualize religion and bring it to contemporary audiences in the age of science. His brilliant writings and speeches would typically weave together biblical passages with discussions of philosophy and science. In this most famous work, The Courage to Be, Tillich laid out his case of how man can resolve the existential crisis of facing non-being. In echoes of Soren Kierkegaard and Freud, Tillich attempted to explain how man could resolve the fear of nothingness with in the face of Non-being. Throughout his life, Tillich's ultimate concern was to try to help man understand the real value of faith and meaning by divorcing the concepts from the myths and the religious and social dogmas which ...

On February Days
Happy St. Brigid's | Candlemas | Imbolc | Groundhog Day. Celebrate the most underappreciated holiday of the year! February 1st is St. Brigid's Day or Imbolc or Candlemas. St. Brigid of Ireland, the woman who some make a good case that she should be the Patron Saint of Ireland before Patrick. Others say she was the pre-Christian fertility or fire goddess of the Celts and that the Catholic Church co-opted her day as they did with many pagan pre-Christian holidays. Whether one celebrates Candlemas as a Catholic holy day or as a one of the Pagan cross-quarter days, it is also the Festival of Lights. Regardless, I have loved February 1st and 2nd since college as Groundhog Day is the most whimsical holiday of the year, thankfully it does not have a 2 month retail buying season building up to it. Tomorrow, I shall take a photo to Puxsutawney Phil to St. Brigid's Well in Kildare to celebrate properly. [MetaFilter]

"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area we call the Twilight Zone." - Rod Serling More stuff to keep kids awake at night: Made with a 50mm f/128 copper pinhole and flash. Think it's time to clean my sensor? [101-365]

BrainFuel growing in popularity, nobody sure why, experts puzzled. Think of this post as a BrainFuel annual report. When we joined 9rules we joked internally that our little “quality content” slogan that we had pasted on the site had fooled the powers that be. It was more of an inside joke about the apparent lack of care we took in keeping this site to any specific focus. I think it’s interesting how in the last six month or so since joining 9rules we’ve had a chance to experiment with what exactly constitutes quality. Posts used to be about any topic under the sun. At least today we try to focus on web design. Well, at least some of the time. Check out some stats from the last few months. You can see what day the Digg happened and notice the slight increase since then. A very small number of those visitors must have thought the site was worth bookmarking. We joined 9rules on July 7th and our traffic has increased significantly as a result. I think it is safe to say that in the ...
