Went to Churchgate along with my brother and cousin sis. They bought some stuff from FS, I looked like an escort to them :-) It's a pain walking in this oh, so hot weather. In the evening we spent some time at Marine Drive. I was car-gazing all the while; I was stunned when I saw an Alfa Romeo (an old model though), I still can't believe it. Having spent some time, we left for home. Returning home in a relatively empty train at around 6:30 PM on a weekday is a rarity that we got to experience today, thanks to the public holiday today (dunno what it was for...).

Happy Birthday Dad!
...My dad is back home after around 10 days or so at Kerala. My cousin sister, Deepa has also come. She'll be here for about a month (she just finished her 10th board exams). By the way, she is an ace guitarist, at such a young age!!These holidays are turning into days of utter boredom and triviality - at home I spend most of the time watching any damn shit on TV and if nothing interesting is available, I turn to BBC. Other things that I have been doing: sleep, eat, sleep some more, eat some more.....When I am called to college for setting up the lab, all I do is waste my time on the internet and if the internet is not available return home without doing anything.About 3 days back, our college principal told me to add some stuff regarding appointment of faculty, to the college website and I did it; today the college had been getting calls from canditates saying they were unable to download the application from. As it turned out, VSNL had been experiencing problems with their ...

The server hosting my website had been down for quite some time...thankfully it's up and running now.The long stretch of holidays that I had been waiting for has begun! Now college will restart on the 28th of this month, though I'll be going to college some days during the festival. While my website was temporarily ill, I tweaked up my journal yesterday. You will notice the changes when you post comments. I added client-side and server-side validation while posting comments, which I should have done long ago. Anyways, I did it for the fun of writing the code rather than to actually validate anything :-) Though, I had resolved to use RegExps more often in whatever I code, I did not do so here; using RegExps would have reduced the code significantly but it wouldn't have given me the satisfaction I got by coding it without using RegExps.Owing to the holidays, I thought that like everybody else, I too should spend my time wisely, so I issued D.E Knuth's The Art of Computer Programming, ...

The Rolling Stones
Today was *the* day. The Rolling Stones kicked ass at Brabourne stadium!...and my brother and I were there to witness it all. The gates to the show opened at 5:30 PM. The Stones began their performance at 8:00 PM (yea, that was a really long wait...). The crowd was huge but definitely not as much as I expected. We were at the West Stand, so we couldn't see the Stones, but the giant screen did the trick. They belted out some of their hits like Brown Sugar, Start Me Up, Don't Stop, Angie, Rainbow,.....man, they were brilliant! They performed upto 10:00 PM; those 2 hours were truly amazing. Rock on!

In the morning, I went along with my dad and grandmother to see them off at Thane station; they are off to Kerala. After their train departed, I headed to CST. I watched Shanghai Knights at Sterling; the movie drags quite a lot. The montage at the end of the movie, showing different scenes of the movie during it's making was more entertaining than the movie itself!I had not been doing anything in the past few days. Seriously! As I had said in a previous post, good things seems to be happening with me, so I felt like some 'done-it-all' person who had reached the pinnacle of his life. Hmm..., finally I landed back to planet Earth yesterday and how did I break the jinx? By writing a simple program! Yea, I wrote a C++ program that simulates the 'Towers of Hanoi' problem with any number of disks you want. It's available here. Actually, it's pretty much a C program but I wanted the liberty to initialise variables when I needed them, so that made it a C++ program :-) It needs some ...

This is probably the first time I am eager to go to college.....maybe it's got to do with tomorrow being a Monday, a day when all activities begin and less to do with the college :-). Hmm, another good reason for my eagerness is that April is coming closer, which means magazines for me!.....I am expecting my articles in a couple of magazines. For quite some time now, I have been imagining myself as a journalist, reporter, tech writer and the sorts, and I love it! God knows what the future holds for me.....When, I had created my peronal homepage some days back, I wrote a lengthy JavaScript for validating the form in my contact page; a significant part of the script was for validating the email address. Later, I realised that I could have used a RegExp to do the work. The following regular expression does the email validation:/^[\w-.]+@([\w-.]+\.)+[\w-.]{2,4}$/iSee, that's the power of RegExp! I guess, I should start using regexps more often in my scripts, though as of now I haven't ...

I am at college, came to scan a headshot of mine for submission to SitePoint. A lot of nice things have been happening recently, which I don't want to talk about now.....Yesterday night I listened to Suede after a really long time. Man, I love She's in Fashion. It brought back memories of my junior college days.....I used to listen to this song almost everyday for a month before going to college.I have been getting lots of mails regarding my articles, Using the XML Data Source Object and XML Data Traversal.....the most often asked question being: "Why doesn't it work on other browsers?" by people who don't know much about the MS XMLDOM or the XML-DSO but tested the script listings on other browsers and "Where can it be used?" by people who do know about these objects. Well, though these might not be very useful in the internet, they could be used for intranet applications where cross-browser compatibility is no issue. Maybe I'll stop my obsession with MSIE-specific controls and ...

Now, anybody can subscribe for the same!I have been seriously contemplating to take part in our college's technical paper presentation; most probably I won't participate because this is not the sort of presentation I would like to participate in, none of the papers here are going to be original. Haa, just reached home some time back! I went along with Sangeet and his pals (we were five); first we went to Dadar, (they) bought some books....., after that we instantaneously decided to watch a movie. It was 12:30 then, we decided on Catch Me If You can....., took a bus to CST, reached Sterling exactly at 1:00! The movie had not started, courtesy of the shitty adverts they show. So how was the movie, you ask? Does Mr. Spielberg ever disappoint? Go watch the movie! After the movie, we went to Computer Book Shop. I bought a book on LISP: Winston, Patrick Henry and Horn, Berthold Klaus Paul, LISP, Third Edition, Addison-Wesley, Reading, Massachusetts. Apart from covering LISP using COMMON LISP, the book also introduces COMMON LISP'S Object System (CLOS), i.e the object oriented capabilities of LISP; OOP is relatively new to functional programming. The book also covers topics on PROLOG. So, I'll be keeping my grey cells busy with LISP in coming days.....We ate stuff (I had a ...

OOP exam was pretty simple (obviously!) but I could not complete it; maybe I went too far, trying to handle all possible exceptions in the class Date problem.....After the exam, Krunal and I were in the comp lab, as usual, browsing through websites of Indian students studying in US univs. The CVs of most students (mostly IITians) look impressive; I felt very complexed (typOf(me)). Here, in our univ we don't get as much opportunities and openings, sadly smart students like me miss out.....I slept for 4-5 hours (again typOf(me)); after I wokeup, I wrote a XML based JavaScript Ticker, XML Ticker using XML DSO using the XML Data Source Object (DSO) built into MSIE. You can find it here. I also updated my JavaScripts collection.Tomorrow, I might go with Sangeet (and his friends). He wants to buy some books from Dadar and then we'll probably loaf around at Churchgate. It's the semis, India-Kenya tomorrow; the gap between the World Cup and India is narrowing. OS exam was pretty simple. I had not studied for OS because we had only processes, threads and scheduling, which are general topics; I knew I would manage. The day after tomorrow we have OOP exam; do I need to study?.....I guess I need not answer that! The TCS option for my project now seems very dim. The guy from TCS, whom I had contacted is now in US, my dad said; I haven't lost hope completely though. My brother and I are thinking of going for the Rolling Stones Concert on the 14th of April at Brabourne stadium, Mumbai. CG exam was pathetic, but I stayed around for an hour; relying on my 'common' sense, I did write quite a lot. My answers were more like an overview of things, with minimal technicality! Oh, yea, I submitted my OOP journal! That female (Aakruti) who has been added to our group told Krunal and Sanjay that she has a couple of projects in hand! (??). Krunal and I spoke to her later, explaining that it would be difficult for her to survive in our group (read we don't want her in our group) and requested her to join some other group. She was reluctant and said she would leave us if she gets any 'good' group. What on earth does she think of herself??GM has launched it's SUV, "Forester" in India under the Chevrolet brand name!
