Definition of Activist Court
The California Supreme Court ruled that charities affiliated with the Catholic Church must provide insurance coverage for contraception, which is antithetical to the Church's very beliefs about the morality of birth control. What is next in California? ...the Girl Scouts must allow little boys to get dressed up in Girl Scout uniforms and sell cookies because the organization's stated purpose is to promote "leadership, values, social conscience, and conviction about their own self-worth" and it is gender-bias to prohibit boys from developing a sense of self-worth. ...Republicans must contribute money to Democratic presidential candidates because by not doing so would be limiting the candidates right to free speech? ...the San Francisco Giants are forced change their name to "Ants" because the "Gi" makes the team sound too militaristic and the shortstop position must be referred to as the "little-person defensive player" because shortstop is offensive to midgets? ...cities such as ...

The Necessity of a Marriage Protection Amendment
These pages have thus far been silent on the gay marriage issue brewing across the country, but specifically in California and Massachusetts. The reason being that the response offered by leading Republicans is a constitutional ban on homosexual marriage (see S.J.Res 26 - "Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the Constitution of any State, nor State or Federal law, shall be construed to require that marital status or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon unmarried couples or groups."). Technically speaking, conservatives should be against amending the Constitution because the natural state of conservatism is one of minimal change. In the 213 years since the ratification of the Bill of Rights, the Constitution has only been amended 17 times. However, upon further reflection, a constitutional amendment preserving the institution of marriage solely for unions between a man and a woman is desparately ...

Bedfellows: Iraq and al-Qaeda
William Safire provides evidence of a working relationship between al-Qaeda and Iraqi officials. Take a look and then ask yourself, "Why doesn't the mainstream media pick up this story?"

Tax System Made Easy
This is perhaps the most insightful article I've yet to read on the American tax system. Hat's off to Neil Cavuto.

At last, a formal inquiry into why France and Russia refused to support the U.S.-led mission to oust a brutal dictator. I guess even when the devil pays enough, some people will listen. Christmas in Tikrit
The economy is growing. We captured Saddam. Look's like Howard Dean's campaign platform needs a few more planks, especially with Gore's added girth straining the support beams.

Iraq War Justified
For all of the naysayers out there attacking President Bush's decision to topple the Hussein regime in Iraq, how do you respond to the news of the mass grave sites being uncovered? From what I've seen, President Bush and our brave soldiers have done the Iraqis and the world a favor.

Roe, Roe, Roe Your Boat
President Bush signed into law today a bill that prohibits a medical procedure that entails the partial delivery of a child in order to puncture his/her skull abort the fetus, usually performed late in a pregnancy. Pro-lifers are cheering the new law as a stepping stone towards a complete overturning of the Roe v. Wade decision of 1973. Pro-choice advocates, however, argue that women are hurt by this new law as it takes away their right to choose to terminate a pregnancy, even if the mother's health is at risk. Several congresswomen gathered on the steps of the Supreme Court today in protest of the President's signing the bill into law. One of the main points in their argument was that we as a nation should not be comfortable with allowing 435 Representatives and 100 Senators determine what medical procedures a woman is allowed to choose to end the life of a fetus. My concern with their argument rests in what they said next. The congresswomen went on to encourage the Supreme Court ...

What is Going On?
I am sure most everyone watching, listening or reading the news has heard about the Army Lt. Col. who has been charged with assualt and communicating a threat while doing his job and saving lives in Iraq. Isn't the whole point of war to "communicate a threat"? How dare this officer be held up as anything other than a HERO that saved American soldiers lives (and likely innocent Iraqi would be by-standers). Not a soul on this earth that is not in the sands of Iraq risking their lives every moment of every day, has the right to even question the methods that our our soliders employ to ensure the freedom and safety of all those "back home".

Unions: Lost Sheep
Out in California, grocery store workers are on strike over disagreements concerning health care coverage. I say let them strike. We are bombarded with daily reports stating the rise in unemployment figures, so let's just give the striking workers' jobs to the currently unemployed. Or, grocery store owners can embrace the future and convert all of their checkout lines to the self-checkout kiosks that do not require the attention of ungrateful employees. Business owners should not be held hostage by labor unions. Consumers should not be forced to coddle union members and their constant complaining about the "atrocities" of their working conditions or benefits package. It is time for the average citizen to stand up for a union-free America. Together we can stop this scourge on our nation.

The Dems Have Their General
Well, it looks like nine just isn't enough. Retired General Wesley Clark has tossed his boots into the ring as the 10th Democratic candidate for the Oval Office. This is a great step for the Dems as Clark touts himself as someone to provide the "strong leadership and visionary leadership to take [the country] forward." While never holding a political office, Clark emphasized his career in the military and as supreme commander of NATO forces in Kosovo. Not to take anything away from a veteran who has served in the United States military for 34 years, including time in Vietnam, but how does his experience leading NATO troops in the Kosovo conflict translate into Chief Executive material? Journalists are using military metaphors such as "he needs to get some boots on the ground in Iowa to stand a chance," but if that is the case, Clark might as well pack up his bags now. We have seen that he is reluctant to "put boots on the ground" in Kosovo, instead using the very Clintonian ...

School Segregation, What is it good for?
Am I mistaken, but wasn't there a Supreme Court ruling some 50 years ago that ordered segregated schools to desegregate on the basis that "separate is inherently unequal"? And then I believe there was another Court decision that mandated school busing to desegregate schools that were the result of de facto segregation from the "white flight" effect--when middle-class, white families moved to the suburbs to avoid attending segregated schools. Well, if all this is true, how can New York City create a publicly-funded school that caters to one specific group of kids and maintain that their separate education is equal? Apparently, NYC feels that homosexual students are at such a disadvantage at regular public schools that they need their own "safe" learning environment, free of the social pressures and stigmas that accompany any "outed" homosexual in the mainstream schools. To borrow a phrase from John McEnroe, "Are you serious?!?" I mean, really. Do school administrators really feel ...

What happened to our nation's sovereignty?
The U.S. Supreme Court, vested with the power and responsibility of interpreting the U.S. Constitution, has admitted to relying on beliefs and social attitudes found amongst our international brethren. Not that we needed any confirmation, but Justice Ginsburg confirmed that the U.S. Constitution is no longer the law of the land. What is next, should we begin reciting, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United International Community"?

Laws of Physics
One of the first things you learn in physics is that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Well, it looks like this holds true for the same-sex marriage debate and the response to the Supreme Court's decision on the Texas sodomy law. Check out this article discussing USA Today's polling numbers.

Iraqi Nuclear Program
In perhaps the biggest non-story story since Sen. Lott's comments at the Strom Thurmond's birthday party, Democrats and the liberal media are stirring up controversy over President Bush's State of the Union address, specifically one line that referred to British intelligence that said Saddam was trying to buy nuclear materials from a country in Africa. While I know that the Democratic 9 (those unfortunate suckers who are serving as democratic fodder for 2004) sincerely want to be President and most will do anything to achieve that goal, it is a sad commentary on their party and the media that supports it when they begin grasping at straws with the hope that if they persist long enough and make a loud enough fuss, they just might legitimize the story--or delude the American public into thinking so. Regardless of the claims of "deception" and "lies" that are vomitted out of the mouths of the liberal left, the fact of the matter is that with regards to the State of the Union, the only ...
