Very Intoxicated at the Magician
I made the mistake of drinking three 7&7's the other night on an empty stomach- no problem for your average 15 year old girl, but for me, it spelled disaster. So if these pictures aren't quite right, I blame the booze! [Unrelated: I arrive in Austin around 2pm. What's going on tonight?]

Tribeca 6
A few more from Monday's walk through west Tribeca. [Related: Mike is leading a walk through Tribeca on March 26th- check out SL for details. Unrelated: apologies for any inappropriate touching last night at the Magician! Why do you guys let me drink?]

Tribeca 5
A couple of nights ago I met up with Mike in Tribeca, and we walked north along the west side of the neighborhood. It was a perfect night for shooting- warm, a little cloudy, and totally quiet. I was shooting with the TS lens on full tilt- I like the slightly dreamy effect it gives to these pictures. If you look closely, you can see that the axis of focus in each image is perfectly crisp. [Unrelated: Perhaps I wasn't obvious enough in my plea for you to vote in this year's photobloggies. Vote for Bluejake! Vote for the other NYC Blogs! Otherwise the Photobloggers Cup will once again be taken back to Toronto! Ok, there isn't really a Photobloggers Cup, but the rest is true.]

Williamsburg 8
A few more from Sunday's walk in Williamsburg- these seem to capture perfectly my mood this week. [Unrelated: Brandon, Rannie, and I have relaunched the Photobloggies, the annual photoblogger awards. There are some great prizes, and a lot of fun categories. Go check it out today and vote for your favorite photoblogs! Special bonus- feel free to vote for me- in the unlikely event that I won in any category, the prize would go to the next runner-up.]

Williamsburg 7
I went down to Williamsburg to do a little bit of grafspotting, and since the L was broken, I had to take the M train down to Marcy Avenue. From there I walked in a big loop, down Bedford, over to the industrial buildings down by West Street, and then back up on Berry. Lots of good cameraphone stuff- I think I got 120 images. The regular shooting was alright, but nothing special- it was a very overcast and cold late winter kind of day.

Tien at Peter Luger's
There are four reasons why I think Tien is more than occasionally awesome- and not just on his Birthday: 1. He has strong ideas about the appropriate length of men's hair. 2. He is a true New Yorker- Stuyvesant, Greenpoint- all that shite. 3. He loves all that is good in the world: cats, pizza, large boobs. 4. He had absolutely no compunction about letting me use the third shot in the series above.

Bird on Rivington
I was walking down Rivington one day- a couple of blocks from that terrifying hotel that Lockhart was always talking about last year. The sun was hitting it in just the right way, and suddenly this pigeon swooped down. It sort of reminded me of a body falling, so I zoomed in and took the shot.

History of the Subway
A couple of weeks ago I went down to visit Karen at her school. Her third grade class had just finished a six month study of the NYC subway. It was a great social studies project- she's now a veritable font of subway information. Anyway, to celebrate the end of the study, the kids made a big book of watercolors celebrating the creation of the subway system- some of the pages were just amazing. I love the different shades of color blending into each other. [Related: visitors often ask questions about the street art project I'm running on Flickr and Typepad. As I've been pursuing the project for the last six months, I've done a lot of thinking about what street art is, and what differentiates it from graffiti and other stuff you see on the street. Today I'm posting the first in a series of diagrams that attempt to make my ideas about street art clear.]

Faces at No Malice Palace
Hilton was in town from Boston, so some of us went over to the East Village for some drinks. Lots of old faces from college, and it gave me the idea of shooting some closeups with the 50mm and a bounce flash. The effect is pretty interesting- but even with the bounce you've got to be careful to avoid hotspots. [Unrelated: I will be speaking at SXSW next week, so if you're going to be down there let me know!]

The Gates 7 (Finale)
Sometime between when I took these shots, edited them, and put them up, they turned to crap. I blame the computer. But what the hell- I'm done with The Gates, and even as we speak, they are being chopped up into little, tiny pieces. I enjoyed the five visits I made up to the park these last two weeks, but I'm not sorry to see the exhibit close- it was just becoming a little much.
