Xeni Jardin: An anonymous Boing Boing reader says that "Technologic," the second video for Daft Punk's new album "Human After All," can be found right here. Link to torrent. And you can buy some neat little alien robot action figures on the band's website here. Update: BB reader Tokumei sez: The action figures on sale at the Daft Punk site are not in fact robots at all! They're actually characters from the anime Interstella 5555: 5ecrets of the 5tellar 5tar 5ystem, which uses the Daft Punk record "Discovery" for the soundtrack. The first four chapters from the movie were also released individually as music videos.

In addition to providing what I consider to be the most consistent search results, Google does interesting things in the advertising space. You've probably noticed contextually relevant text advertising on numerous sites you visit, including mine, or maybe you don't realize you've noticed them because the advertising actually relates to the topic presented on the page. I'm sure someone geekier than me could explain in detail how Google makes their advertising work. In the end, I don't really care how it works; it just does. While I've been ignoring banner advertisements and flashing garbage for years (punch the paparazzi, anyone? Or if you've been online for at least five years, that's punch the monkey) I regularly find Google advertisements that lead me to things I either never noticed before or would not have noticed if the Google advertising weren't making a relevant match to the content on the page.

This episode, in part, seemed to be MythBusters thanking the various stores/people that have helped them over the past two seasons. It was entertaining for me, as a Bay Area resident, as I got to find out about some weird shops nearby, as well as have the obvious pointed out to me (e.g. the Hobby Shop in San Antonio Shopping Center carries r/c supplies). From time to time we've tried to spot or guess Bay Area locations, and this episode saved us some effort. Some of the shops that got mention: Center Hardware in SF East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley Alameda Discount I've transcribed the "How to Make Ballistics Gel" section below because, like Adam (the host), I also get inquires regarding ballistics gel. In fact, it's my second highest search term right now, so I thought I would help those visitors out. How to Make Ballistics Gel I've transcribed the instructions given on MythBusters below, but it appears that you might be better off following this guide instead. My google searches to ...

I take and even publish pictures of, well, nothing, when the shape demands it. Blame that math degree. Two of these these are on the Steveston waterfront which is pretty darn nice on a sunny day; the other in a random sunlit stairwell.

There’s this azalea in our front yard (you walk right by it on the way in) and it’s a photographer’s problem because at its peak it vanishes behind a solid mass of red petals, bright red, arguably garish but you have to smile; only no camera, film or digital, has come close. “Beauty is hard” said the poet, and so are extreme reds. Anyhow, here are three shots of its prepubescent phase in very vertical sunlight...

I just got in from the annual Museum Gala. I had a blast - even though I was solo. Peter is in Boston for Monday's Home Opener at Fenway. Anyhoo, I had a great time. I got all dressed up (I wore the red satin jacket/black skirt number) and even attempted to paint my nails. However, this Slat Rat definitely needs some help on the girl stuff front. Nail painting is not as easy as it looks. I did make one discovery. One needs to start doing one's nails several hours before one actually needs to leave. It seems to me that you should do one hand, let it completely dry, and then do the other hand. I tried to do my nails twenty minutes before heading out the door. Not a good idea. Anyhoo, back at the main event. The art was fabulous - all sorts of incredible stuff available - to the highest bidder. Speaking of the highest bidder.... I might have picked something up at the live auction that was a bit pricey. But boy is it the neatest thing ever and totally appropriate for someone who works ...

by Phil Lawlerspecial to CWNews.comApr. 08 (CWNews.com) - When the last will and testament of Pope John Paul II was made public, many news stories-- including one that appeared on CWN-- led with the report that the late Pontiff had considered resignation. Had he really?Nowhere in his spiritual testament does John Paul II mention the possibility that he could step down from the papacy. The notion that he considered resignation is based on one ambiguous passage-- in which the late Pontiff might have been discussing resignation, but then again he might have been discussing the approach of death. The wording of the papal document allows for either interpretation. Here is the much-discussed passage, written during the Lenten Retreat at the Vatican in 2000: 1. When, on October 16, 1978 the conclave of cardinals chose John Paul II, the primate of Poland, Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski told me: "The duty of the new Pope will be to introduce the Church into the third millennium." I don't know if ...

If the reports are to be believed some people at the top of Rover MG have made substantial amounts of money at the expense of the company, it's employees and suppliers. Would it not improve business relationships and be a business and social benefit if: a) Where redundancies over 10% of the workforce are being made within a company all Directors must not receive a bonus or salary increase during the 12 months following b) If a company goes into receivership that the Director's salary and bonuses paid over the previous two years are counted as part of the company's assets. This amount could then be used to help repay staff and suppliers who have lost money or jobs. c) All Director bonuses are directly related to increases in turnover, profits etc and bonuses for failure to meet targets etc are outlawed Stephen Harvard Davis BRC: How to avoid job failure www.busrelcon.com

Sunday Cinema The votes have been tallied in our "Pick the Next Sunday Cinema Feature" poll (the one in honor of the Pope and the NBC mini-series "Revelations"). The winner, by one vote, was the spaceship-from-hell classic, Event Horizon. But never fear, our runner-up, End of Days, will be featured next week. In fact, all the nominees will have their time in the spotlight, because we've got the summaries done and we're not afraid to use them! (Well, actually, we don't have a summary done for Left Behind II: Even More Left Behind, because we are afraid to watch it, but we'll do it, if needs be. You know, for the children.) But first, in honor of "Revelations" (which begins Wednesday, I believe), here's part of a Wash Post item about it: "I've always felt that the executives in the entertainment industry are completely out of touch with the culture of most Americans," [says the program's executive producer, Gavin Polone]. They're disconnected from the nation's character and ...

I want this. It isn't rational; for one, I have no idea where I'd ever wear it, and for two, it wouldn't fit. I don't even think it'd fit if I was 20 pounds lighter, because I've always had big boobs and while it'd probably (almost certainly) fit in waist and hip (it almost would now), the boobs, they get in the way. But *augh*, because it's *beautiful*! I *wants* it! O.O I got my retention bonus check from Caremark today. This is a check that I expected to be around $3500 after taxes. It was slightly under $400. I expect I will be told that this is very specifically the retention part of the expected payout, and that the rest was essentially profit-sharing, which I expect I will be told that I am not eligible for because they laid me off. I am contractually obliged to not say anything derogatory about Caremark in any public forums, so I'll just let you all imagine what I have to say on the matter. What really pisses me off is I asked specifically about the retention bonus when ...

Perhaps the outpouring of admiration for Pope John Paul II last week will at long last alert those at the helm of my political party — the Democratic Party — to a truth that has yet to sink in despite the whack to the head administered by last year's election: Cultural values count.
