My Negative Scanning Workflow
I have to say I have a lot more understanding of scanning and what it takes to make a print from a negative these days. Basically was up till something like 2:30am last night as I finally hit my stride in the negative scanning I've been trying to get to. I've only (after spending a fair amount of today doing this as well) gotten through two and a half rolls of film, but I've got a system worked out that seems to go along well with the equipment and knowledge I have. Read more if you care about the workflow and whatnot.

Red-orange house
These photos are part of the Los Altos Hills Photoset I just posted, but I'm posting them separately because they are of my favorite house in Los Altos (Hills). I had to bike up a steep hill on weak legs to take these, so they deserve their own entry. Sadly, I did not chose my time-of-day well, but I don't think I'm going to redo these anytime soon. Part of the reason I like this house is that it doesn't try to stick out. Most of the house is not visible from the road: More photos in the photoset.

The Ole filter makes a pass... I have to say, Bittorrent is the coolest thing ever. Tonight I wanted to download xCode v1.5, the latest version of Apple's Developer Tools. So I'm a member of Apple's Developer Connection, and I find the link on their website, and I click on it, and I start the download of the 300MB disk image. I'm getting 100KB/s, not bad, but this is going to take hours... Okay stop that. I launch Shareaza, find a torrent for xCode v1.5 on eDonkey in, like, five seconds, and crank up the download. In no time I'm downloading at 350KB/s. Fifteen minutes later I had the image. Oh, and yes I did leave it running for a while to donate some upload bandwidth. We care and give back :) WritTorrent: Drag & Drop .torrent creation. Excellent. This is going to be IP TV. Really. Steven Den Beste pokes his head out of retirement for brief post: Victory is never cheap. I'd kept U.S.S.Clueless in my aggregator in the faint hope this would happen, and it did. Organic Farmers and Marketing Boards - Update: February 12, 2005
A lot has happened since our last Chicken and Egg Dance and fortunately we have good news to share this year. The huge effort of the organic producers, retailers and consumers through the letter writing and post card campaigns has resulted in a move by the provincial government to bring some fairness into the marketing board system with regard to organic producers. The provincial government ordered another review of marketing boards. George Leroux presented his report “Recommendations for Managing Specialty Agri-Food Products in B.C.’s Supply Managed System” to the Minister of Agriculture on December 20th, 2004. This report can be obtained off the Ministry of Agriculture website.

Organic Farmers and the Avian Flu
BCARA (B.C. Association for Regenerative Agriculture) is one of 5 organic certification bodies operating in the lower Fraser Valley. It certifies just over 50 farms. 16 farms raise poultry as a part of their farm. CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) killed the birds on 4 of these farms, 4 farms killed their own birds or did not place birds due to the avian flu, 2 farms were allowed to raise their birds to slaughter age then could not place birds until the ban was lifted, 6 farms were allowed to continue with their poultry since they fell outside the hot zones of the valley.

Song of the day: Kielbasa / Tenacious D Word of the day: Inessive / A grammatical case indicating location within Oh, the riches of grammatical cases. So many to choose from -over fifty at least. I'm trying to decide how many cases to go with in IS. I'm going to have some fucked up ones in there. I might have a case indicating "fucked up". Except there's no "fuck" in IS. It will have much, much better swear-words. onetrick pony
I've been blogging for a little over two years now. When I started, on January 1, 2003, I started slow. My posts were short, with few pictures. I had very few regular readers (hi Mom!) and very little traffic. Then exactly two years ago I did something very few bloggers have done. I wrote a "popular" article. That one little article, The Tyranny of Email, transformed my blog presence. Suddenly I was on the map. Dave Winer linked it, and the rest, as they say, was history. I'd only been blogging three months, but there I was on the home page of slashdot, and my traffic hasn't dropped much since. That article remains by far my most popular page, and periodically someone new discovers it, links it, and poof! I get a bunch of traffic. (This just happened, Omar Shahine, "yet another Microsoft blogger", posted a link two days ago, and I've had a flood of traffic since. Thanks, Omar :) I could probably stop blogging altogether and I'd still get a bunch of traffic from that one page alone. ...
