So I'm still kicking around an appropriate review format for what I'm starting to call "The Casual CCG Player's Reviews", just to give it all some focus. I wrote two reviews, one for Gnostica and one for the much lamented Zarcana, and then decided that the reviews, while not bad, were not entirely good. And that I should have held off on writing them until I'd gotten the hang of the 'CCG Player' reviews. So one of these days in the future (not right now) I'll probably have a better structured review for both of these games, which I think are both good games, although Zarcana is not to my taste. (There are still some people I would play Gnostica with, and others who would be happier with the less confrontational, more laidback and random nature of Zarcana.) But it's going to look weird to have two articles, both called 'User Review', by the same user. And I'm not sure that I'm doing anybody a service by posting a second review as a reply to the first review, except making them wade ...

We're back after a fun but tiring weekend at Northern Voice. Some of you may have noticed that Julie's blog and my blog were down last night and most of today. I discovered late last night that the server was wedged. Of course, we were all in Vancouver, so there was no one to reboot the machine, which was pingable but unresponsive to network services. Did I mentioned that I was horrified, since Julie's talk was well received, and now her blog was off the air? I discovered a pile of dst cache overflow messages on the console when we got home tonight. There were also a bunch of syslog-ng[14436]: Error accepting AF_UNIX connection, opened connections: 100, max: 100 messages. If anyone can accelerate my learning process on this, it would be a big help. Details on Northern Voice will be up tomorrow.

Kathai Verrater Vom Kap bis Kairo I am offering the above 3 games for an English-language copy of Jambo. All 3 games below have rules in German, English, and 1 or 2 other languages. In the case of Verrater, there is some German text on the cards, but it's only a single name on a few cards and easily comprehended by non-German speakers. The 3 games are in excellent condition. Only Kathai has been played extensively, and all are in very good shape (no visible wear to any components). The boxes are all sound. US residents only, to save on shipping. Please email me through BGG if interested, or submit a trade request through the system. Caleb

by JEREMIAH LEWIS, American Digest Film Editor TWO WEEKS AGO I COULDN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT what I was going to wear to the Oscars. At first I was thinking I could go with the casual chic that has so marked Michael Moore's career: trucker hat emblazoned with a Gothic 'B', large button-up number, brown, extra-wide pockets, XXXXL blue jeans (slightly worn at the thighs), tennis shoes from Payless, and a trademark leather airman's jacket. But since he and his lamentable Fahrenheit 9/11 got burned by the Academy, Hollywood, all of Flint Michigan, and Clint Eastwood, Moore has shaved, got himself a ocean liner sized tuxedo, and even styled his hair. My counterculture hero has gone mainstream. I mourn the loss. Then it came to me. A large, white, linen robe, a sash, sandals (made with real camel leather), and the coup de grace, a wooden cross around my neck, signifying my allegiance to Mel Gibson. I could call it "Fashion of the Christ". But then I remembered that The Passion only got ...

via John Kerry for President 2008: Senator Kerry, the children of our nation need your leadership in Washington! We have an Administration who cuts essential public programs while expanding programs shown to be effective, yet popular with his Fundamentalist base. America can and should do better! Keep that door open for 2008! The health of our children depends on new leadership in Washington!

PETA seeks statewide king fishing ban PLEA: Animal-rights group asks governor to save state fish. By PETER PORCO and DOUG O'HARRA Anchorage Daily News Published: February 19th, 2005 Last Modified: February 19th, 2005 at 03:05 AM In a move sure to evoke derision in this fishing state, the animal rights organization PETA has asked Gov. Frank Murkowski to stop all Alaska fishing for king salmon. PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, faxed a letter to Murkowski on Friday, claiming that recent studies show fish to be "intelligent animals who feel pain." "(W)e are writing to request that you declare King Salmon, the state fish, off limits to fishing," Karin Robertson, manager of the group's "fish empathy project," wrote to Murkowski.

Reading Engadget today, there was a funny story about Paris Hilton having her Sidekick hacked. The Sidekick is a cute mobile device that isn't available in Aus. It is sold by telcos, like T-Mobile. All her infomation is there - photos, notes, contacts. Including phone and email for Mark Philippoussis. The downside of hosted services, or maybe marketing folks shouldnt give their stuff to flaky B-grade celebs.
