Things i have been amusing myself with, now that I wear glasses:reading signs at a greater distance practicing looking over the top of my glasses at someone in a questioning manner covering my left (good) eye and reading a book with my right eye taking my glasses off with one hand and then dramatically rubbing my eyes with the back of the same hand so as to indicate fatigue resting my chin on the back of my hand holding my glasses and trying to look like I am deep in thought when someone asks me a question, taking off my glasses, looking down, and rubbing the lenses with my shirt while saying "well, that's a very intersting question..." judging distances with greater accuracy thanks to a more acute perception of depth

(Reply to Article ('Re:A rare (and sad) story about how TICKET TO RIDE didn't come up to expectations') for Ticket to Ride)
Wraith wrote: Actually, Hawk, I think you are a little off the mark. Nersai's group don't want interaction built into the game. They want a game that allows them to interact socially while the game is going on. Of course, no such interaction is possible in diplomatic type games which contain a hint of war gaming. There is no point in arguing semantics when we are saying the same thing.

Web services can be offered by cohesive collections of classes called domain packages in such a way as to provide significant functionality through a small number of services. Domain-package contracts are those class contracts that are accessed by classes outside of a domain package. This paper shows you how to complete the transformation of your object-oriented application into a suite of Web services.

Sounds exciting doesn't it using a content/communications management system to prepare for a Presidential Bicentennial Celebration. "The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission is now using Marqui's Communications Management Suite to help streamline the management of its web site and other online campaigns designed to educate the public about Abraham Lincolns accomplishments." I took a look at the website and can see a professional layout, fresh content and best of all fitting for a event like this. Congratulations to Marqui for their involvement in this historic event. [Marqui] Disclaimer: I am paid to write about Marqui on whatever subject I choose. I can what I want, positive or negative about the product.

The Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) is an open source framework for developing model-driven applications. It creates Java code for graphically editing, manipulating, reading, and serializing data based on a model specified in XML Schema, UML, or annotated Java. EMF is the basis for many of the tools within IBM WebSphere Studio and Eclipse projects. This paper will step you through the process of creating a model, generating code, using the generated applications, and customizing the editor.

These files work "out of the box" but the template files can be modified as follows. (The /sw/etc/zsh/zshenv and /sw/etc/zsh/zshrc should not have to be modified. If you have to modify these, please report this as a bug.) . 1. Issue sudo mkdir -p /Library/init/zsh/local-functions . 2. Copy any file you want to modify from /sw/share/zsh/templates/Library/init/zsh into /Library/init/zsh and then edit it there. That file will now be read INSTEAD OF the corresponding file in /sw/share/zsh/templates/Library/init/zsh. Anything that appears in /Users/$USER/Library/init/zsh will be read IN ADDITION TO the other files. The directories /sw/share/zsh/templates/Library/init/zsh/local-functions and /Library/init/zsh/local-functions are both in the $FPATH by default; a funtion of the same name in /Library/init/zsh/local-functions takes precedence over that in /sw/share/zsh/templates/Library/init/zsh/local-functions. This structure permits customizations that will be preserved during fink package ...

Its one thing to have dicerolls as a resolution mechanism, its quite another to be forced to sit there and watch player after player roll with nothing going on, or limited cards being pulled. Poor design imo. And yes, its clearly not a simulation game. Which is a serious drawback imo. That may not bother people as much as it does me, but it bears pointing out.

The OMG's new architecture is called the Model Driven Architecture (MDA). MDA is based on the Unified Modeling Language (UML), the OMG's popular software modeling language. With its recently announced Model Driven Architecture, the OMG hopes to greatly simplify the challenges of integrating complex, networked environments for the e-business era. This paper offers a first look at this new UML-based architecture, with particular attention to how it relates to existing architectures such as CORBA.
