I've written before about Schwarzenegger's budget proposal and cuts for the UC. One thing that I haven't addressed--and an issue that has failed to get widespread attention--is the purposeful gutting of the UC's Institute for Labor and Employment. This was...

I've now committed the API changes to evolution-data-server, so can finally do a new release of this applet. Featuring display of video conferencing URL, complete asyncronous lookup and demonstrates a rather annoying bug in gnome-panel 2.5. If you run GNOME 2.5, you will not be able to focus the text area by simply clicking. Alt-click instead to focus the applet, and then click to focus the text area. Hopefully Mark McLoughlin can figure out a way to fix this before 2.6 is released... Download it here.

Did I seriously just get referer-spammed by the Sharpton campaign? I don't know how I got on this Christian singles spam list either, but on how many levels am I so the wrong audience for this? Also, when Satan's done in the bathroom, he won't be too happy if all...

Judith, who has recently taken over writing at the Social Software Blog, has a neat summary of a wonderful paper - The Meaning of Social Entrepreneurship by J. Gregory Dees, for the Stanford Business School's Center for Social Innovation. Its a paper written five years ago on 'business' and 'social' entrepreneurship. A valuable find and timely reflection when there is so much activity around social software and social networks. It made me reflect on who really is a true Social (Software) Entrepreneur, and provided some clues into defining the very term. Quoting from Judith's post : "In this paper Professor Dees gives a brief history of the evolving definition of 'entrepreneur': early 19th century French Economist, Jean-Baptiste Say: "The entrepreneur shifts economic resources out of an area of lower and into an area of higher productivity and greater yield." early 20th century economist Joseph Schumpeter: "the function of entrepreneurs is to reform or revolutionize the pattern of ...

Match summary: A frantic encounter, inevitably scrappy in the conditions, but not dirty. Narbonne broke the offside rules frequently, and had two players to one sent off as a result. Rather more Frenchmen might have been sin-binned, too.

A little, no ... a lot of relief. My folks have decided to bail me out my debt pit. My interest rate was over 20%. Unemployment for ten months will do that. I will pay them back at 0% (variable). They did this without flinching and without bitterness. I'm stunned, and more than a little grateful.
