Well, for all the hype, it is still a real pain to actually find wireless access, even in the middle of London. Part of the problem (for me) was knowing my exact location. Why are Orange not offering me this as a service already? They can tell me where I am, where the closest bank is. Now they need to tell me where my closest wireless acccess is. Maybe once they have their WiFi offering up and running they'll get around to it. As Dave said earlier, WiFi at Starbucks is NOT cheap, but I was so fed up after marching around for over 40 minutes, that I've ponied up. There are two other groups of people in here using WiFi, which seems pretty good for such a small place. Better get this posted and be on my way before my time is up! Posted by Martin Little

GNER, one of the British train service companies, recently started trialling their onboard WiFi service, so I thought I should give it a go whilst it is 'free'. I say 'free', but it is only available to first class customers at the moment, and a ticket for travel is not cheap! Getting Started My journey began at 9.30 this morning. Sitting on the train in Waverley station, I popped my WiFi card into my laptop and waited for connection. I managed to get a nice little GNER 'current location' map, which told me I was sitting in Edinburgh and that my WiFi connection was working, but no Internet access. According to the helpful systems guy who is fielding customer connection queries during the trial period, coverage is patchy in Edinburgh -- even the GPRS connection didn't seem to be working. Further Down The Line 2.5 hours into the journey, the connection was still hideously slow -- almost unusably so. A quick test comparing download times of a few different sites, including the BBC ...

This morning the Court released its opinion in the matter of LAWYER DISCIPLINARY BOARD v. ARCH A. MOORE, JR., in which the Court unanimously denied former Governor Moore's petition for reinstatement to the practice of law. Also released were three concurring opinions. Justice Davis filed a concurring opinion that was joined by Cabell County Circuit Court Judge David M. Pancake, who was appointed to the Court along with Grant County Circuit Court Judge Andrew M. Frye, after Justices McGraw and Albright deemed themselves disqualified. Justice Maynard also authored a concurring opinion, as did Chief Justice Starcher.

From Wards page on c2.com: As of December, 2003, I've taken a position at Microsoft with the title Architect. I'll be working with a group I have consulted to this last year while producing http://msdn.com/patterns. I know that some authors here have no good will for the company. Please remember I will remain the same person. I also invite TipsForWardAtMicrosoft. Having had some personal interaction with Ward in the last year my first question (along with everyone elses I'm sure) was “why?”. Looking closer at Wards wiki page revealed that he worked for IBM Consulting somewhat recently where he answers the same question. From WardAtIbm: Why would I quit a cool job working for myself to join IBM? Big Clients. It's that simple. Big companies are going to take Smalltalk to the next level. I wanted to be a part of it. But big companies don't hire little consulting outfits to help them make big decisions. I was also spending too much time fooling with my web server and needed something ...
