I saw this ad last week at the same Bart station. I wished I had my camera, but I'm glad some one did! Now I know it's an HP ad, but at the time I didn't. Broadband heaven
Mmm… yes, I am late on the wagon but still, I am on it and I am riding it. As of today bye-bye stupid dial-up, hello fast internet. I am downloading stuff just to see the speed. Although I got 3 times faster connection at work, it is still an unfamiliar feeling to have this speed at home. Mmm… sweet… It’s freakin’ hot by the way. 37 was the highest, but I am sure it is over 30 right now.

Improving .NET Application Performance and Scalability and SOA...
There are a few new items of interest out on the web right now. If it wasn't for some key blogs I may have missed these items. Particularly Sam and Robert are working on some interesting items with Nant and Enterprise Services. I have been waiting to see what they will have to share next. Then I noticed a new pointer to a beta patterns and practices book, "Improving .NET Application Performance and Scalability" I will be checking this out very soon. But that is not all; I noticed another very interesting link to a dotnet workspace called Shadowfax. Shadowfax is a reference architecture project that we can use now rather than waiting for the Indigo architecture to fully be manifested and accepted by the masses. Clemens has references to Shadowfax also but he also really thinks about SOA in depth. Check it out. I am so busy currently with current contract responsibilities. Fellow architects like Sam, Robert and Clemens, really do a justice to this industry by sharing there thoughts. ...

Lamb - Darkness and Wonder
There is a new shimmering on the Lamb soundscape - a guiding light radiating with certainty yet heavy with shadow, reflected in the title of their recent album Between Darkness and Wonder. As the band pushes itself to new heights, the listeners become intimate witnesses to their exploration of the terrain where trip-hop dovetails with soul grooves, jazz beats and classical overtures. Singer Louise Rhodes and sound maestro Andy Barlow have begun to set a new path for the future...

Chocoholics rejoice!
Berkeley-based chocolatier Scharffen-Berger finally yielded to customer demand and introduced milk chocolate to their line, much to the gnashing of teeth of dark chocolate snobs nationwide, no doubt. According to the salesman at Fog City News, where I bought my bar, it has been available for two weeks now, even though the company's own website apparently makes no mention of it. It has a high cocoa content (41%), and has the brand's distinctive rich flavor and long finish, although I find it a little bit too sweet. My preferred brand of premium milk chocolate remains Michel Cluizel, with their amazing 50% Java cocoa milk chocolate bars.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (The Australian)
Claire Harvey reviews LOTR 3 for The Australian: After seven years of speculation, the final secrets of the film version of Lord of the Rings can today be revealed. The strict embargo signed in hobbit's blood by all journalists who have seen The Return of the King lifts this morning, ending the agony for fantasy nuts who have been digging for the details of director Peter Jackson's trilogy since he began work in 1996. 10 things to note about WLNP (Wireless Local Number Portability)
On November 24, the FCC is mandating that consumers be allowed the option to retain their phone numbers when switching service providers. For anybody who's stuck with one carrier solely because they wanted to hang on to their number, this is a big deal--the chains have come off. But unfortunately, you can't simply take your number and run. There are a lot of unanswered questions and potential pitfalls ahead. So before making the switch, arm yourself with the facts, and be wary of hidden costs. These tips will help you steer clear of any unexpected fees. 1. Number portability will not be universally available on November 24.Initially, it will be available to users in the top 100 markets. Depending on where you live, you may have to wait as long as six months to take advantage of this ruling. 2. You probably can't use the same phone when switching carriers. As you're probably aware, phones in the United States work on specific networks (GSM, TDMA, CDMA, and AMPS). Thus, you won't be ...

Back in the Saddle Again
This morning I drove into work from Sherman. Jerry had said I could be late due to the trip. I got to work at 10:00. After a short bit of reading email and newsgroups Jerry came in and invited me to go to lunch with himself, Arvel and Jon. We went to the Cacherel, which is a fabulous restaurant near Alt-N. After a lunch retelling our adventures in and out of Cancun we headed b...

%$@%$*@#!!!...
I bought Madden 2004 a few days after it came out, and have played obsessively ever since. I play, on average, two games a day; usually one or two on weeknights, and a few each day on the weekends. I'm a flat out addict. Over this past weekend, I ended my 9th season of the 40 season Franchise Mode, with a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss on an 80 yard touchdown pass in the last few seconds. Sufficed to say, I was anxious to get another season going and get another shot. I went through the preseason draft and training camps last night, and even came home at lunch today to play the first preseason game of the 2012 season. Fine...all was good. So, I just sat down to play another game this evening and found that it was gone. I must have been in a rush to get back to the office and turned the console off too soon. The saved game file had been corrupted and everything was lost. Everything. %$@%&$*@#!!! From here on out, I guess I'll start backing up these saved games. With the exception of ...
