Wired has Nikster wanting to visit a new, adults-only science centre in London. Now! On the other hand, its home page is a big disclaimer, so she’s kind of suspicious.

The Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) summit has started in Miami, Florida, US. Huge protests will try to interrupt the negotiations, which involve the leaders of all 34 countries of the American continents. The FTAA, if signed, will allow corporations to sue local or national governments in special courts for enacting any regulation that can be seen as a "barrier to trade" - labour, environmental, or health regulations, for example. FTAA talks end early- The Free Trade Area of the Americas summit came to a premature close this evening, after ministers from 34 countries apparently accepted a watered-down proposal for creating a hemispheric economic community. For more background information, read the article "FTAA Negotiations Close to Failing in Miami" on Venezuelanalysis, and rabbles article Victory in Miami- Strategies Going Forward in the Anti-FTAA Campaign. More feedback in the article "FTAA crippled, but not a clean kill". Huge amounts of protesters came to Miami to ...

In about 18 hours I get another shot at seeing Lacuna Coil. They're playing at Club Laga, which I've never been to. I don't know what lucky stars made them come to Pittsburgh a fourth time (I hadn't heard of them yet the first time, and never heard about the second time), but this is a headlining show, so I'll not miss them from showing up late, and probably get to hear twice as many songs (as I would have had I showed up earlier last time). I assume the opening bands will stink, but they always do, no? Part of me wants to act like I'm half my age and take a CD to get autographed and try to get pictures and whatnot (of course, of Cristina Scabbia, the singer), but I dunno about that. It'd probably be impressive to say nice things in Italian, but I don't know anything other than the more, um, colorful expressions I'd hear as a kid :)

A tiny bit of good news comes out of Washington. Reuters reports that Congress has successfully attached a provision to the spending bill that will reverse the FCCs ownership cap decision for 1 year. It's ony a small victory as it is temporary and only applies to future transactions (meaning Viacom and Fox still get more than 35%).

I dont know where that long entry i wrote went but i'm definitely not typing all that shit up again so here goes in three sentences: 1. I registered a new domain dotfotos.com 2. The server currently hosting dotfaf.com was runnig out of space because of the gallery so i paid for a new server an moved the gallery there. 2. I successfuly move the gallery overnight. All old links will work but you'll be redirected to the new domain. I even had time to upload pictures from Kat's "P" party from about 2-3 weeks ago when i was visiting...

This is the title of a book. Not just any book, but a book that has changed my life. Not as extremely as the Word of God, but its a good book by worldly standards. In fact, I recommend it to every web developer I meet. At work we're working on a new version of our website and the company that is doing the graphics and layout design, Holmes-Millet, got that book recommendation ...

(Emptoris "Procures" Zeborg's Spend Management Expertise - Part Three: Challenges and User Recommendations)
The combined company's possibly biggest challenge remains a lack of awareness of the need for sourcing/spend management. While many people have realized the power of e-commerce on the consumer side, there is still plenty of education to be conducted by all the SRM vendors to prove how much leverage their applications can bring to corporate buyers.

Re-implementing what I designed in 1979 is not interesting to me personally. For kids who are 20 years younger than me, Linux is a great way to cut your teeth. It's a cultural phenomenon and a business phenomenon. Mac OS X is a rock-solid system that's beautifully designed. I much prefer it to Linux. [via Wired] From Bill Joy, that is high praise, indeed. Apple's OS people should be deeply tickled.
