iSub Toggle 2.0
Fed up that your iSub continues pumping when you plug in headphones? This script toggles the iSub on or off with one click. Best used if saved as an application and put in the dock for easy access (especially with its own icon). Requires the latest GUI scripting software. (Updated for Panther - Panther now mutes the iSub when mute is pressed, but still not when headphones are plugged in)

What is Going On?
I am sure most everyone watching, listening or reading the news has heard about the Army Lt. Col. who has been charged with assualt and communicating a threat while doing his job and saving lives in Iraq. Isn't the whole point of war to "communicate a threat"? How dare this officer be held up as anything other than a HERO that saved American soldiers lives (and likely innocent Iraqi would be by-standers). Not a soul on this earth that is not in the sands of Iraq risking their lives every moment of every day, has the right to even question the methods that our our soliders employ to ensure the freedom and safety of all those "back home".

GFI Mail Essentials panned in Network World's 9/15/2003 review of spam filters
Joel Synder's article, Test: Spam in the wild, which was published in the September 15th issue of Network World, compared 16 mail filtering gateway products, utilizing a variety of metrics. GFI Software's Mail Essentials version 8 was found to be the worst performer of those tested. GFI turned in an accuracy rate of a dismal 3.6% and a false positive rate of a whopping 56.3%. Read some of the quotes from the review...

boo!
went people-watching for halloween. i ended up going to the castro with a few friends. the gay mecca hosts a mass of humanity every october 31, although this year they tightened things up. it wasn't as packed as i thought it would be, but there were still tons of people milling about. good times. i think i'll be dreaming of nurses over the next few days, though.

Cocoa and Perl There's More Than One Way to Do It
The Cocoa development environment encourages the "Model-View-Controller" design pattern. This article demonstrates how Perl can serve as a resource for the "Model" components of Cocoa applications. The PerlObjCBridge makes it fairly easy to provide an Aqua interface to a Perl utility, or to add Perl's power to Objective-C in the "Model."
