Late start in the morning. We all slept through the free breakfast in the hotel's Great Room. Marc still feeling queasy from the previous night. Finally settle on the Golden Griddle at Steeles and Woodbine (across from the Holiday Inn where we usually stay for ComputerFest). Marc couldn't finish his breakfast at the table. Went across to Shops on Steeles to get Gravol and some bottled water. Caught up with Mike at the show (he was on his way out). He told us that the $10 Palms were all sold out. Buncha other things were sold out, as well. Caught up with Gary and his girlfriend at the show. Plenty of bar code readers... they turned out to be the PS/2 serial :CueCat readers. the guy was selling them for $1 each (including tax!). I picked up one, but now I'm kicking myself, because I had considered buying several. I should have bought at least two. The three of us pitched in on the book deal. Dave took Pete and myself to the game today, Dave's home team the Cleveland Browns were in town. The event was very cool - Dave got great pitchside seats about 3 rows from the front. Lot of razzmatazz from the dancing girls, and the Seahawks put on a pretty good show too! (They whipped Cleveland 34-7). All lubricated by a couple of pints of Rainier Draft. As an NHL virgin I was pretty impressed! I took a few photos while I was there too. Thanks a tonne Dave!

Already last month Gary L. Murphy detailed his outline for a new way to approach the distribution of music, and making the likes of the RIAA superfluous and worthless. Read his proposals in How to slay the RIAA, and The Subscriber Mechanism. All related entries to this are aggregated as well. It is a good example I think of how ideas put forward in blogs can be turned into action. So I decided to put my money where my mouth is.

God, what a rollercoaster weekend. (If you're wondering what I'm doing better than, check out the previous post.) Had a bit of a freakout experience last night, left me a little shaky, but oddly, I feel also incredibly refreshed. Or like I will be, once the jittery part dissipates, which it will. Once I get some sleep, and more than a meal or two a day. Man, did I have a night last night. But I'm a little leery of blurting it out here in public. Jean Genet wouldn't have any fear about it. (Not that I was robbing anyone last night. Don't go too literal on me.) That's what's odd about this, though. I think I could in a book. I write those things--books, stories--by myself. Yes, I hope to publish them at some point, but never the point I'm writing them. That's just hanging out there as some future danger, that I brush off as something I'll just have to face down the road some time. Very different than facing it in the present. Or is it just because a book feels more like one time. ...

(I initially posted this--ten minutes ago--as an update to the Thanksgiving(s) from hell post from Friday. But man, it veered way off that topic and went on way longer, so here it is on its own): A few of those comments [in the Thanksgiving post] were really unfair to my family. I forget that I've written almost nothing about them, so for all you know they are a bunch of heartless, cruel Mormons who have disowned me and wracked me with guilt every time a sexual thought passes my brain. The guilt can actually get pretty intense, and oddly, I think I bought a much bigger load of it than any of my siblings, but it's the Catholic brand, and has nothing to do with being a homo. They could not have been nicer about that. They don't really approve of some of the edgier things I've been known to do, but I think it's mainly one part disapproval to four parts fear. Though I'm not completely sure about that, actually, and there are eight of them, so it varies, a lot. Wow, look how drawn back ...

In the comments section associated with Aaron Hartter's post on free will at No Treason I posted the following in response to a claim made by someone calling himself "The Serpent" that belief in free will is irrational because "free will" is a concept that cannot (at least in his opinion) be precisely articulated: Though I suspect nobody will completely agree with me, I have issues with the serpent's implicit claim that belief in something that cannot be precisely articulated is irrational. For example, I believe that 2+2=4, which most people would consider rational, even though I cannot precisely define what "2" is in a way that seems obvious to the non-mathematician. However, at least in this instance I can precisely define the concept (though there's a strong argument to be made that the structure of logic is, at best, tenuously connected to reality, whatever that is).
