The Hill, Geoff Earle: GOP unity is strained by attacksSenior Republicans have begun raising concerns about the administrations strategy in Iraq amid daily attacks on U.S. forces there. Asked whether he favored any policy changes in Iraq, Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) responded: We need to have a different mix of troops, is the key. We may need to move some troops around. Honestly, its a little tougher than I thought it was going to be, Lott said. In a sign of frustration, he offered an unorthodox military solution: If we have to, we just mow the whole place down, see what happens. Youre dealing with insane suicide bombers who are killing our people, and we need to be very aggressive in taking them out.[ via catch (#) ]

Copps is fantastic. They have bulk food - something I haven't seen since I left Oregon - and their produce section lifts my spirits. They have Silk in ALL of its varieties, they have organic cream cheese! They even have Tofutti's ENTIRE product line. Oh my goodness. The prices are reasonable as well. My favorite chili was on sale and I purchased multiple cans. And some organic spinach. And the list continues. I'm really quite pleased and I believe I will shop there exclusively from now on.For now, however, sleep.

Imagine for one terrifying moment that you are at a large crowded place like an amusement park, or an air show. Imagine that you just turned around in the crowd and your child is missing. Quick, what was s/he wearing? How recent is the picture in your wallet? Quick, seconds count! What was your child wearing when s/he left for school this morning? Times up! How'd you do? In a world filled with digital cameras and phone cams there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to answer that question quickly and with confidence. And there's no reason why you...

Day 3 WSV 201 Indigo: Services and the Future of Distributed Applications Nothing is being deprecated. ASMX, and Remoting will be supported until the end of time. But, neither would be the best choice for new development once Indigo comes out. However, ASMX is the least wrong, so if you can use that today, its going to migrate over the best. Indigo will release no sooner than Whidbey and no later than Longhorn. Its not directly tied to either. So well see it in 2004, 2005, and/or 2006. Plenty of time to prepare apparently. Indigo will run on XP and W2K3, and will be in the box with Longhorn. But if your thinking that maybe it will run on Windows 2000 or Windows 98 you are out of luck. Don said that not supporting Windows 2000 decision was fairly painful to make, and it doesnt sound like theyre going back at this point. Brad Cox coined the concept that objects are like software ICs. People have been chasing this dream ever since. There have been a lot of people who have ...

Apple have announced that it won't patch versions Mac OS-X prior to version 10.3. with a series of Security 'enhancements' [Article here on CNet] I'm bloody amazed that in the current security-conscious climate that Apple has the audacity to label fixes to OS-X security flaws as enhancements (like the first outing was satisfactory). Second, it's incredible that Apple are not supporting OS-X 10.2 and below. It’s a bit like Microsoft saying that we wouldn't offer fixes Windows 2000. The alternative for Apple owners is $129 upgrade and the potential for incompatibility. Third, this is Mac OS right? Based on an Open Source OS right? So how could it have security flaws - I read in the newspaper that Open Source software never has bugs :)

`24,' The TV Show That Never Sleeps Kiefer Sutherland needn't have bothered dropping those oh-so-obvious hints in the entertainment press that the days may be numbered for special agent Jack Bauer, the character he plays on the Fox action series "24." After watching tonight's third-season premiere, many viewers may well conclude that the hours are numbered for Jack. As the show begins, we see Bauer -- who was a pillar of physical and emotional strength just two seasons ago -- now looking like a complete wreck. He's sweating and shaking from some unrevealed condition, he snaps at everyone around him at Counter-Terrorism Unit headquarters, and worst of all, he insists everything is OK. "24" continues to distinguish itself as the most original show on television -- although much has changed in the three years that we're told have passed since the end of Season 2. For one thing Bauer now has a protege, played by James Badge Dale. Jack's daughter, Kimberly (Elisha Cuthbert), has joined ...

Well I don't know about anyone else, but personally in the last few months at the current .Net job I did not have to do "Do Loops" and "Do While Loops". nbsp; If I ever need to loop it usually involves the "For Each" loop. nbsp; :-) For the past few days we've been working on a solution to do Email 2 Fax. nbsp; We are in the process of testing this nice software solution, as current services charge atleast 10 cents a page!

Now onto less important matters. First, that R.E.M. single I wrote about a couple of weeks ago is, I assure you, and old song. It was floating around as a bootleg at lease since 1989 when the gone but not forgotten Ellis Hughes covered it. I was reading in the most recent Uncut (which as far as music magazines go, thwnz) that R.E.M. says they wrote it about our post-9/11 world. Well, thats a bunch of bullshit. The next time you see Michael Stipe, spit in his eye from your good friend Pete Nikolai. Second, I got the Wig in a Box +.. The Songs from Hedwig and the Angry Inch tribute album. Like all tribute albums, its pretty much just celebrity karaoke. Id say only buy it if you are already a big fan of Hedwig and the Angry Inch or you appreciate the cause. Either way the reason I mention this is because of the Bob Mould version of Nailed. When I say version I mean, loudbomb remix. (get it its an anagram for Bob Mould). When I first listened to it on my boom box in ...

Whats up wit chew all? My long awaited critique of iTunes has been indefinitely shelved until I decide to do it. Needless to say the grade remains C+ Now onto the important news. This might be old news to you, but the Bush Administration has decided to prosecute Greenpeace because a couple of its members violated an obscure law. I got this email today regarding said prosecution: Apparently, last year two greenpeace activists climed aboard a ship carrying Amazon mahogany wood and held a banner which said President Bush: Stop Illegal Logging. Ok, so maybe these activist violated a law, but its still a stupid prosection. So, if you would be so kind as to write the President and the Attorney general, that would be great. Not many technologies have managed to bridge the digital gap, like barcodes have. There is a couple of projects that aim to extend this type of real world / digital world binding and interaction, beyond warehouse management. The ones below seem to have potential, as they try to empower the user and not just deliver more ads... I mentioned digitally signed ID cards with a barcode in an earlier post. Dataglyphs are a PARC Research's solution to embed barcodes within images themselves. And the Sem@code project build barcodes that encode urls and are readable using a cellphone's camera, which seems...
