What started out as a day of excitment boarding a plane to head west to LA almost become a day ending wondering what strange city (Other than LA) I might rest my head in. While transfering planes half way accorss the country we were informed that the Air Traffic Control Center for southern California had to be evacuated and that all flights into that area were on hold. We were told that our 11:23 am flight would be 12:30... 1:30... 2:30... 4:15.... 7:00.... and FINALLY at 8:30 (I'm not even sure in what time zone) two flights worth of people were loaded onto one larger aircraft and we all finally made it. I hope that everybody attending the conference will share out luck. It was interesting how during this wait time I was able to meet a number of strangers heading to PDC from various places. We're all really looking forward to the show.

During my senior year of Notre Dame, I lived in a six-man in Grace Hall. My roommates have proven to be excellent friends over the years. (Four of us live out here in Los Angeles.) We were all there last year when Sasena got married, and the experience was so pleasant that we all managed to get together this...

One down and two to go! Thanks to all the hosts who should have received a Microsoft Optical travel mouse. Despite not being included on the BoF schedule the .NET Rocks quiz show had hundreds of people and a well filled large room. We discovered that microphones are really required as the rooms are fairly large and it helps the host(s) drive the discussion. All the sessions I checked in on had at least a couple dozen people and many had over 80. The best analogy for most of them was being an hour of after session Q&A and people seemed to enjoy it! The only session that re-arranged the room was the Women who Code where they were clever enough to make a circle of chairs and had a very positive discussion for the little bit I was there. Be sure and check for the sessions tonight at http://mymsevents.com/MyMSEvents/search.aspx?s=1&keywords=&keywordtype=1&track=123&speaker=0×lot=0&catFast+Tracks=0&future=0&submit=Search+Now%21

It seems like some people (even Americans!) seem to want the United States to fail in the reconstruction of Iraq. This is evidenced by their focus on bombings and setbacks, and the odd expectation that a nation can be converted overnight from a war-torn / fascism-ravaged wasteland to a prosperous and free democracy. (Anyone who has been involved in any...

It looks like there's no way to use the very powerful _targetInstanceName property with Flash MX 2004 components. This variable used to be filled out automatically by the Flash IDE when a user drag-dropped a component from the Library onto a movieclip or button at the Stage, but this behaviour seems to be discontinued in Flash MX 2004.

Sandy is sitting here next to me as I write about the awful pictures he took while he was visiting me here in San Francisco. Fortunately, the conversation was better than the photos by orders of magnitude. And he left me a book about cadavers! What more could a guy want? From Sandy: Seth should be happy with the photos. They make him look better than in real life..... I am also one of the few people willing to visit him, that should count for something. Sorry my photgraphic artistry is not up to snuff.......

When unexplained catastrophes strike around the globe, geophysicist Dr. Josh Keyes (Aaron Eckhart) and French atomic weapons expert Dr. Sergei Leveque ( Tcheky Karyo) are summoned to Washington, D.C., to determine if covert enemy action is to blame. Working with his team at the University of Illinois, Keyes discovers the mystery behind the tragedies is more frightening than any act of war-the earth?s inner core has stopped rotating. As a result, the planet?s electromagnetic field, which shields the earth from deadly solar radiation, is collapsing. If the problem is not resolved quickly, airplanes will start falling from the sky and everything electronic will be destroyed. Static discharge in the atmosphere will create "super-storms" with hundreds of lightening strikes per square mile, and deadliest of all, microwave radiation will literally cook the planet. Terrified by his findings, Keyes seeks out of the opinion of renowned geophysicist Dr. Conrad Zimsky (Stanley Tucci), an ...

Four years after Agents Kay (Jones) and Jay (Smith) averted an intergalactic disaster of epic proportions, Jay uncovers a diabolical plot masterminded by Serleena (Boyle), an evil Kylothian who disguises herself as a sexy lingerie model. When Serleena takes the entire MIB building hostage, there is only one person Jay can turn to -- his former MIB partner who is now a drone in another large government office; the U.S. postal service, and prefers simple pleasures like his wife's cookies over standoffs with mammoth alien insects. It's a race against the clock as Jay must convince Kay -- who not only has absolutely no memory of his time spent with the Men in Black, but is also the only living person left with the expertise to save the galaxy -- to reunite with the MIB before the Earth is destroyed.

As I blog, I'm installing Garmin's <a href="http://www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/MetroGuideNT.jsp">MapSource MetroGuide USA</a> maps on my GPS (via an incredibly slow serial connection). I spent a few hours this afternoon playing with my eTrex Vista - it is so fun. I drove the "Ski Boy" nuts on our way to Nordstrom's this afternoon - I gave him a running commentary on distance driven and walked, time moving, time stopped, and our elevation. Is this not cool or what?!

On the way to the rescue - in their Winnebago - they confront the huge, gooey Pizza The Hutt (voice of Dom De Luise), sassy robot Dot Matrix (voice of Joan Rivers) and a wise little creature named Yogurt (Brooks), who teaches them the mystical power of "The Schwartz" in order to bring peace - and merchandising rights - to the entire galaxy!
