Latent Inhibition
This link discusses interesting research that goes one step deeper into understanding creativity: ... creative people appear to be more open to incoming stimuli from the surrounding environment. Other people's brains might shut out this same information through a process called Latent Inhibition - defined as an animal's unconscious capacity to ignore stimuli that experience has shown are irrelevant to its needs. The article says that both psychosis and creativity share this lack of latent inhibition, and this provides an explanation of the link between the two. I wonder if it also explains some of what is going on in attention deficit disorder. (via Creative Generalist)

Blogs bring traffic to business
Must get back to writing more on corporate blogging. Allan, Stuart, Terry, Phil ... checking in and hope to take this forward on my trip to the US (will be in San Francisco and the Bay Area from the 19th to the 28th of October - and then heading to the East coast thereafter). As starters - some links presenting different views. On the heels of this article - Guardian Unlimited: Why blogs could be bad for business - comes this first-hand endorsement and demonstration of why blogs are good for business - by bringing in traffic - from a person who blogs in her organisation. (Don't miss presentation on corporate innovation too). Innovation and the power of the blog Yesterday Cheskin and Fitch:Worldwide released a new research study on corporate innovation. Much to PR team's dismay, in spite of vigorous pre-pitching, the study didn't seem to catch on with the media (at least not yet). Nevertheless, on the day of the release, with only a BusinessWire distribution to our credit, our web ...

Blog carnivals - anyone interested ?
This is my last post on the 31st Bharateeya Blog Mela (the Indian weekly carnival that highlights best of blog posts for a week). Its been a really lively and somewhat controversial event - and was an amazing experience. Before i get back to 'regular' blogging, thought i'd share some of the things i've personally gained from hosting the event : What i've learnt and gained : i've had some lively conversations and healthy debate with people i had not interacted with earlier - and know there's just so much to be gained from these conversations - take a look at the series of comments here for a sampling ! i got a pretty interesting understanding of the 'mindset' of the Indian blogging community - in all its complexity and diversity i had the opportunity to really scan a whole lot of blogs new to me - and discovered many many delights i learnt how seriously this event is taken by many bloggers who have concerns about showcasing the best of Indian talent in the blog world i'm learning ...

Configuration file schema for WSE 2.0
WSE 2.0 has a very compelling extensible architecture. You can add additional SoapTransport classes to the system which allows you for example to use SMTP or MSMQ as the underlying transport protocol for your SOAP messages. I'm trying to figure out how additional SoapTransports can be registered for an application. Obviously there is the MessagingConfiguration.AddTransport based approach. I’m looking for a more declarative approach. I’m pretty sure you are able to add new transports within the application’s configuration file. Unfortunately is this approach in TP release of WSE 2.0 not documented. After diding around yesterday evening with ILDASM a little bit, it seems that configuration section handler is not handling anything below the transports element. So lets wait until we will get the released version of WSE 2.0 ... <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <configSections> <section name="microsoft.web.services" ...

"Dear Delia, I linked to your site a few days ago while surfing some strange home pages (it was a feeder transgendered male who linked to you, sorry, I can't remember the URL). In any event, I stayed up well past dawn reading your free section, after which, I joined you. I just wanted to let you know that your writing is outstanding, your kinks amazing, and your ability to put your life out here for all to see is, frankly, beyond belief (in a good way). I was especially struck by the fact that you have more spelling errors in the narratives that are still fresh... I wondered why someone who can obviously write so well would make simple mistakes like that, and then I realized that once you have written something, its done with, not to be edited again, just like the experience itself. There's something monumental about your writings; a huge picture constructed of brief snippets of your life, sometimes connected, sometimes with great leaps in time to the next passage. Baseball Playoffs
Don’t mind me as I ramble on about baseball. I love the sport more than any other and thought I’d jot down a few things. It was disappointing to see Florida eliminate San Francisco on Saturday. I’m beginning to wonder if the Giants will ever win the World Series in my lifetime. While I’m a New York Mets fan, I can’t stand the Yankees. They always strike me as corporate bullies that need to be humbled by teams with smaller payrolls, like Boston or Oakland. I’m overjoyed that Chicago beat Atlanta. I can only take so much of the tomahawk chop and their first baseman who shows his temper on the field. It would be great to see Chicago and Boston in the end, with the Cubbies taking it all. The championship would be between two teams, from historic baseball towns, who haven’t won in at least 85 years.
