I've been so busy with work that I haven't read anything about the tires brouhaha in F1, until now. FIA has half heartedly threaten to measure tires after the race, because the Michelin tires are, presumably, bigger than they should after the race. I know this will favor Ferrari, but my position on this is unfazed... I want to see a real race. I don't want people disqualified after the race, unless there is blatant cheating. Any rule like the tire rule that can't be controlled before the race should be scrapped. It is actually quite a feat of engineering to make tires that grow productively during the race. Michelin should be rewarded, not punished. Ferrari and Bridgestone should shut up and put out.

Gary Halbert -- Learn From A Master Copywriter
Copywriting - the art of using the written word to generate sales - is an underappreciated art in today's Internet age. Gary Halbert - one of the "old masters" of copywriting - has put together an unbelievable resource for you to use. A website with 100 of his famous "Gary Halbert Letters" posted for you to read through. People have paid hundreds of dollars a year to be subscribers to these letters, but now you can learn from them absolutely FREE! I can't stop reading them! Each one teaches you something about direct mail, copywriting, selling, or business in general that you won't see anywhere else. Gary can be very gruff, and will offend some people who are very conservative, but that is the tone that cuts through all the bullshit and hype online and gives you the valuable information you need to succeed. In his most recent letter, he takes on all the Internet marketing "gurus" of today and really lets you know what he thinks about them (not what you expect). The information ...

OpenMosix 2.4.22-1 Released
Newsforge notes that OpenMosix 2.4.22-1, which coincides with the 2.4.22 kernel, has been released. I've plugged it before, but OpenMosix is by far the easiest way to experiment with clustering without having to dedicate a set of hardware to it. It's really simple to install and 'just works' in migrating forked processes to other machines in the cluster. It is simple. It is beautiful. It is OpenMosix.

Microsoft: Asia not playing fair... A plan by Japan, China and South Korea to develop an operating system alternative to Microsoft's Windows software could raise concerns over fair competition, Microsoft said Friday. Japan, the world's second-largest economy, made a proposal at an Asian economic summit this week to build an inexpensive and trustworthy open-source operating system that would be based on a system such as Linux, which can be copied and modified freely. "We'd like to see the market decide who the winners are in the software industry," said Tom Robertson, Microsoft's Tokyo-based director for government affairs in Asia...more [CNET News] No I am not making this stuff up. This is from the worst predatory monopolist of our age. Hey, if your OS works so much better then this should be no problem. Perhaps M$ should think about putting some of that 45+ billion dollars (in monopoly money) they have in the bank, towards improving their code base. Oh, and Tom, this is the market ...

.net language preferences
No, I won't be stating my preference or starting a holy war, but I do want to share some observations. Okay, so again with the technical interviews. This time, a question that I always ask i (because client sites always ask it), “What is your preferred language to do .net development with, and what languages are you comfortable with”. The answers can be broken down as such (note that I'll put my opinions on why after): “I preferr VB.net, and I have seen / I have done c#. It doesn't matter, since all .net languages do the same things” 6 of the 7 times this answer was given, the developer was a VB6 or ASP convert (recent) that didn't know anything of c# (had never really used it, but had seen examples). The 7th, the candidate did not know c# at all, but was coming from Access (VBA) development “I prefer C#, and I can do VB.NET but I don't like to“. 3 of the 5 times this was given, the developer was strong in .net and knew both languages. The 4th candidate was a recent java convert ...
